WAKE FOREST MENS SOCCER | ENGLAND TOUR | MARCH 2022
In March 2022, Vertex Soccer extended a warm welcome to Wake Forest Men's Soccer, marking our first UK tour since the pandemic's onset. The Wake Forest University Men's Soccer team set out on an exhilarating UK football experience involving fixtures against top professional academies, live sporting experiences and cultural experiences to keep for life.
With their impressive performance, Wake Forest made a great account for themselves, and for College Soccer against top Professional Academies. The journey began with a fixture at The Cliff, against Salford City U23, followed by a top level game against Leicester City U23 which was held at LCFC’s new £100m training ground. The momentum continued as rounded up the week against Brentford City U23 at Brentford F.C Training Ground.
Our aim goes beyond testing skills against foreign counterparts – we strive to broaden horizons and enrich football knowledge. During a lecture after a training session at Derby County FC facilities, then-manager and football legend Wayne Rooney shared insights.
Two exhilarating Premier League matches were part of the team's tour experience, featuring Leicester City FC and Manchester City FC. These live games left a lasting mark on the Wake Forest Men's Soccer team, exposing them to the electric stadium atmosphere of English football.
Enhancing their training regimen, the team had the privilege of training at two world-class facilities – Manchester City FC's Etihad Campus and Carrington, the prestigious Manchester United training complex. This unparalleled opportunity allowed players to hone their skills in an elite environment and glean insights from top-tier coaches.
As we reflect on this tour, it's not just about the matches played and goals scored. It's about the holistic growth, cultural exchange, and the enduring memories created.
